Senior Year: Our First Week!

Hey guys! Swathi and I just made it through our first week of school so can I get a what what?

So basically, it was Swathi’s idea to reflect on our first weeks in gif form, so here it goes!

But it turns out, it was probably all just in my head , and we’re totally chill now 🙂

CLAPPING GIFS

Basically, I’m loving being a senior. The stuff I’m learning in my classes is really interesting, and the people I’m around make it even better.

SWATHI’S FIRST WEEK:

I participated in the Senior car parade on the first day so I had to be at my friend’s house at like 6 a.m., but then I slept through my alarm like and spent the rest of the morning like:

But then parents were handing out donuts and muffins while we were waiting in the parade line, which was a good thing cause I was about to be like:

but not really…

And then I walked into school with my senior shirt on and was just like:

Bitch, I’m fabulous

All my classes were pretty cool, but they got boring as the week went on…

AND having barely homework in all my classes was easy but then I realized I still have to start on my college apps and was like:

BUT then I realized that all my best friends were in all my classes, except for one and was like Oh. this. is. gonna. be. GREAT!

So overall, I think Senior Year is gonna be a good year!

This was a fun post to make, let us know if you want make more of these! 🙂

Musical Monday

This is my last week of summer and the weather forecast says that it’s going to raining and storming all week! 😦

But anyways, these are some songs I’ve been recently obsessed with! Most of them are pretty slow songs which makes it perfect for the rainy week ahead, but all of these songs are amazing!

Last night one of my favorite rappers Hoodie Allen had an concert at NC State which I think was part of their freshmen orientation. Just 2 hours before the concert, he annouced that the concert was going to be free & open to the public! Well I was definitely not going to miss my chance to see my favorite rapper perform live! My friends & I managed to sneak our way to the front of the pit and got to see him up close and person! And I can honestly say he did not disappoint. It was definitely the most spontaneous thing I’ve ever done and probably the only #yolo moment I’ve ever had. I honestly felt like one of those cliche teenagers at a concert and that made me feel more like a teenager! So if you guys ever get an amazing opportunity like I did, don’t let it slide away from you so easily! Go after it!

And here’s some footage from last night’s concert that I took:

Agenda & Binder Organization Tips & Tricks

20130814-1433091Hello there!

It’s time for another back to school post, and this one is all about how to organize your school agenda and binder(s)! We’re both going to take one of the above and give you our organizational tips for that product and how we like to use them.

Swathi’s Agenda Organization Tips:

Now both Manni & I’ve used agendas every year of our school lives and if you’re reading this right now, I bet you have too. Agendas are very important for school as that’s where you write down all your homework and any tests/projects you have due soon. I always start off the school year writing everything down in my agenda and then by like the middle of the year I stop using it. But this year I’m making it a goal to use my agenda for the whole entire year. Now I’ll walk you through my agenda and how I plan on keeping it organized this upcoming school year. This is my agenda for this school year, it’s larger than my past ones but I think it’ll really come in handy this year.

20130813-234039.jpg

Lilly Pulitzer Agenda in Chiquita Bonita

  • Buy an agenda that you’ll like and actually use: I don’t know if your school does this or not, but I know that my school sells agendas for the school year every year for around $5. So if your school sells them and you aren’t that picky about what your agenda looks like than I recommend buying one from your school. I don’t really like the plastic ones because in my experience they always get wrecked or ruined easily and don’t last all school year. This year I went for the Lilly Pulitzer large agenda in the print Chiquita Bonita (featured above) I got mine at a local store, but you can order yours here. I like it because it has a hard cover instead of plastic one and it’s also a bit larger than most agendas so I can write more in it. Also it’s pretty cute and I know if something is cute, I’ll want to use it a lot.

    20130814-142140.jpg

This is a mock up of how I color code different activities and assignments in my agenda.

  • Color Code Your Agenda: I like to use different color pens or pencils when writing things down in my agenda. I’ll have a key for each color. For example: pink would be all my social events, purple is all school homework, red is upcoming tests and projects due, blue is like work or internship, and then green is any appointments that I may have. Color coding your agenda may seem like a lot but it’ll really help you keep track of everything when you’re really busy.

    20130814-142157.jpg

How I used sticky notes in my agenda. The purple sticky note on top opens to my month overview, while the blue sticky note on the side opens to my weekly overview.

  • Use Sticky Notes: If you don’t have enough space to write everything down for the day then grab a sticky note and continue your list on there. Then after your done with that day, move your sticky note on top of that date in your week to week calender. You can also use sticky notes to mark your place so it’s easy to find. For example in my agenda, I have one sticky note on my month overview and another sticky note for the week I’m currently on.
  • Take your agenda out at the beginning & end of every class: When you are pulling out your binder and pens for a certain class also pull out your agenda. Sometime teachers write homework and upcoming assignments and test dates on their board at the beginning of the day for all their classes to see. So if your teacher does this, then write all this information in your agenda at the beginning of class. When your packing up your things at the end of class, pull out your agenda again just in case. Sometimes a teacher might not get through all the material in class and will assign you to finish reading or finish a handout at home for homework.
  • Review Your Agenda at the End of Each Day: Right before you go to bed or get ready for bed, take out your agenda and make sure you’ve completed all your assignments for that day. You don’t want to forget to do an assignment and go to sleep that night and show up in class the next day and be the only one who didn’t complete the assignment. Checking right before you go to sleep will give you enough time to complete any assignment that you may have forgotten (let’s hope it’s not a project!), even though you might lose some of your sleeping time.

Manni’s Binder Organization Tips:

Alright guys, now it’s time to organize those binders. Ideally, your binders are where you’re going to keep a LOT of your papers, worksheets, and other stuff. Not in the bottom of your backpack. Crumpled up. In to a ball of sadness and disorganization.

Staples® Better™ dividers 8-Tab set, Multicolor

  • Dividers: These are so important for keeping your binder straight. You’re going to want a section in your binder for each subject you’re taking, and I usually like to throw in an extra section for loose-leaf paper. Additionally, sometimes you’re teacher for a certain subject might want you to have multiple sections IN your section for that class. Like for English, you might have to have “Assignments” and “Reading” section within that section in your binder. This can be somewhat confusing, so as your teacher is speaking, write down the sections they want so that you can organize your binder accordingly when you get home!

  • Periodic Cleaning: Make sure you’re not letting things that you no longer need for class build up in your binder. It’s a good idea to go through it every so often (weekly, monthly, whatever fits your lifestyle) and take out anything you no longer need.

*If you want to take something out of your binder, but you’re not sure if you’ll need it sometime in the future (to study for finals or something) have a folder at home for things like this. Instead of throwing it away, you can just put it aside until you think you might need it again. If you’re taking APs like Swathi and I and you get 183792e74e098 papers in one day, you might need a folder for each class to do this with, instead of one for all. Plus, a folder for each will keep things more organized.

  • Reverse Psychology: Lol okay I don’t know if this is actually reverse psychology, but use a cute–maybe even your cutest–binder for your least favorite subject. Because when you’re in the classes that you like, you’re already happy! Or at least not miserable. But when you get to that class that you can’t stand, you’re going to want to give yourself all the reasons to smile that you can. So if you use multiple binders instead of one big one, use your favorite binder for your least favorite class! It’ll give you something to look at and hopefully make your class a little brighter.
  • Use Sticky Notes to Divide Units: A little bonus tip from Swathi here, you can use sticky notes to divide notes for each specific unit in a class or a subject. That way all of your notes won’t mush together and you can keep track of everything when finals come around.

So those were our tips and trick to organizing your agenda and binders. These tips we’ve gathered from not only experience, but also from other people’s advice across the internet. I hope you found at least some of these tips helpful and I hope you do well this school year!

Back to School in Style

Hey guys,

It’s August and usually for us that means it’s back to school season. This past weekend was in fact tax free weekend in our lovely state and I definitely took it upon myself to get all my school supplies during that weekend.  In the spirit of back to school season, Manni & I are going to share with you our back to school tips and tricks to survive this upcoming school year. Now as high school seniors, we’ve learned a lot over these past couple of years on how to survive that dreaded first week and the one thing that’s one everyone’s mind is: “What do I wear on the first day of school?” Well since we’re seniors this year, Manni & I don’t have to worry about that problem cause every year the seniors at our school wear their black senior t-shirts on the first day of school.  But for the rest of the week, it’s not that easy. So not to dwell any longer, take it away Manni!

The main thing you should focus on is wearing what makes you feel good! If you’re a sweatpants hair-tied chillin’ with no make-up on type, dress like it! In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with a comfy pair of sweats. If you like to jazz things up a little, don’t be afraid to!

MY (IDEAL) BACK-TO-SCHOOL CLOSET

TOBOGGANS

GRAPHIC TEES

SKINNY JEANS

FLARE JEANS

FAUX FUR COLLARS ON FAUX FUR COLLARS ON FAUX FUR COLLARS

SNEAKERS

AAAAND HOODIES

PUT IT ALL TOGETHER AND HOPEFULLY I’D BE ABLE TO PULL OFF SOME OF THESE:

Now that Manni’s shared some of her wardrobe staples for this school year, I (Swathi) thought that I would share some outfit ideas that you could wear during the first week of school. If you’re more like me, you like to be comfortable in what you’re wearing but also look nice at the same time.  Last year, I just picked a random top from my closet and threw it on over whatever pair of pants that were clean, let’s just say I was a mess! This year I’m making it a goal to dress nicer and more put together. Looking good not only makes me feel good throughout the day, but it also makes me feel more put together.  So if that’s also your goal this year or you just want to dress nicer this year then you can join me on my journey and we can do this together! 🙂

Monday:

floral kimono

So if I actually had the option to not wear my senior shirt on the first day, I would probably wear a cute outfit like this one above. I would just wear a simple tank top and white shorts (if you don’t have lace ones, plain white ones will do just fine) and a floral kimono to bring it all together. If you don’t have a floral kimono or don’t feel like buying one, you can learn how to make one here. It’s really easy to make and it doesn’t take that much time at all! I feel like this outfit really has that girly yet casual feel to it and also looks really nice for the first day of school.

Tuesday:

Now by the second day of school, mostly everyone will go back to dressing how they normally do and won’t put in that much effort to look nice. While most people choose to dress down, this is your perfect opportunity to stand out. I would definitely recommend wearing your best outfit on the second day of school rather than on the first day as you’ll stand out better and more people will notice. You can try this look by tucking in a plain jean shirt into a cute printed skirt or shorts and finish off the look with a cute belt.

Wednesday:

Cute look:)

By Wednesday, you can start dressing more down and you don’t have to put that much effort into looking nice (I mean c’mon, we already spent two days trying to look nice, do we really have enough energy to make it through the rest of the week?).  The simplest way to look nice and cute without really trying is to put on a pair of colored jeans and throw on a loose white top paired with cute sandals or wedges. This way you look nice and put together while most people are already back to wearing gym shorts and t-shirts like they’ve been doing all summer.

Thursday:

Sundress, so cute!

On Thursday, you’ll probably be tired out from a busy week back at school and you might want to just wear something comfy and simple. I would suggest just slipping on a dress which takes no more than 5 seconds. Wear a dress that’s not only bright and comfy, but also school appropriate. You’ll not only look cute, but you also don’t have to spend much time in the morning getting ready which gives you more time to sleep in.

Friday:

New York tee, jean shorts, shades.Friday is the last day of the week and by now you can totally let go. You’ve spent a hard week waking up early and spending seven hours each day actually learning information, I think you can use a break. Stay comfy yet casual with a some jean shorts and a cute tee. It’ll look casual but also signal that you’re ready for the weekend to start!

So those were my outfit ideas for the first week of school. Feel free to change up these outfits how ever you like and let me know what you would wear on the first day of school! We’ll see you all this month when we’ll be giving you more tips & tricks on going back to school such as how to get organized for school, some apps that make sure you stay on top of things, and how to survive that dreaded re-encounter with those people at school you aren’t too fond of! Until next time!

July Favorites!

Hey guys,

It feels like just yesterday we did a June favorites and now we’re already doing a July favorites! The month of July went by fast! I felt like I did do anything productive this past month even though it was pretty busy! I probably should get started on my AP summer assignments soon as school is only less than a month away (AHHHHH). Well, anyways, here are our favorites for this past month!

Swathi’s Favorites:

  1. Bath & Body Works Triple Moisture Body Cream in Cashmere Glow: I’ve been using Bath&Body Works products for a couple of years now. My mom and I always get sucked in to their buy 3 get 2 free deal and end up buying way more products than we needed in the first place. I bought this in one of those spending sprees a while ago and when I ran out of my body lotion, I turned to this and it’s literally the BEST THING EVER. It smells so nice and I love how nice it goes on, I would definitely recommend it to anyone and everyone.
  2. Our 2nd Life a.k.a. my current Youtube obsession: I discovered these boys randomly as I was surfing through Youtube one day and immediately became hooked on their channel. The channel is a collab channel compromised of Connor Franta, Ricky Dillion, Sam Pottorff, J.C. Caylen, Trevor Moran, and Kian Lawley. Each week they have a theme and each day one of the members post a video revolving around the theme. Alone they are pretty funny and entertaining people, but together they are freaking hilarious
  3. Once Upon A Time: OMG. THIS SHOW. If you haven’t seen it yet, then you need to go on Netflix right now and start watching season 1! Originally, I thought this show would be a classic drama revolving around classic fairy tale characters, but I was wrong. This show puts a dark twist on the classic fairy tales that we know and love. The basis of the show revolves around an evil spell the Evil Queen cast on the fairy tale characters that sent them into the real world where they forgotten who they really are. The main character, Emma, is Snow White’s daughter who was sent away before the Evil Queen could reach her and that when she is 28 she will come back and break the spell. Emma’s son, Henry, finds her and brings her back to Storybrooke and that’s when everything starts to change.
  4. Divergent by Veronica Roth: When I heard that this book was being made into a movie, I definitely wanted to make sure I read before the movie came out. This book is about this girl named Tris who has to choose between five factions to spend the rest of her life in. Before she can choose, Tris must take an aptitude test along with the other sixteen year olds that will show her which faction she’s most fit to survive in. When her test results show her as belonging to more than one faction, she becomes divergent. Throughout the book, Tris must  battle with her divergence as she fights to become a member in the faction that she has chosen. In my opinon, this book is probably one of my favorite books I’ve ever read. Veronica Roth not only made a strong and compelling female lead but also did not include a love triangle like all of the other authors have done so in the past. I loved this book so much I drew three birds on my collarbone just like Tris did in the book. Now I’m onto the next book in the trilogy, Insurgent, and then I’ll have to agonizingly wait for the third book to be released later this fall.

Manni’s Favorites

1)      One Direction Make Up

MUA 1D Lipstick Kiss You Be Mine Harry

I love One Direction. And I love make up.

I pretty much exploded when I found this. You can find all the products HERE—they only ship in the UK though D:. I LOVE Harry’s lipstick pictured above—the color is to die for, and I love how all it’s got his signature on it : ) Also, I believe it’s cruelty free!!

2)      Promiscuous (The Josh Desi Remix)

Aight, my ethnicity is something called Punjabi. Punjabis are famous for a few things, among them our music. Punjabi music and Hip Hop are my two favorite types of music. A lot of Punjabis feel the same way, so people make a lot of Punjabi Hip Hop mixes. Sometimes they’re just eh, but a lot of the time they are really good, and occasionally you’ll run across one that is PERFECT, like the on above! I’ve listened to it so much! I don’t know how enjoyable it’ll be for those of you who don’t understand the Punjabi language, but give it a listen and let me know what you think!

3)      People—

paintheart

I know this is a weird one, but one of my absolute favorite thing  this month was the people I encountered. My cat had a medical emergency at the beginning of July, and his vet’s office was closed. So we took him to a veterinary clinic that we had never been to before. Despite not having called ahead of time, and the fact that they were going to close soon, they took our Cinnamon in and treated him like he was one of their cats. They told us exactly what we needed to do, which was go to NC State Veterinary school, the only place nearby equipped to handle him, and they put him on oxygen for a few minutes to make him comfortable, all for no charge. When we went to NC State right after, they were just as caring for Cinnamon, and sympathetic to what we were going through then. Through all of this, I was reminded how much of a difference it can make to be caring and kind to someone  : )

Those were all of our favorites for this month. I hope you enjoyed reading them as much as we did loving them. Let me know if you’re currently obsessed with a t.v. show, book, or even a music video like we are. Until next week, check out our Pinterest page! I’ve been pinning lots of things on there, so follow us and check it out!

I Think I Want To Marry You…(Weddings Part 1)

Hey there!

So it’s summer, and you know what that means…

WEDDING SEASON!!!

I don’t know about you guys, but I LOVE weddings (this is Manners by the way)! I’m not getting married anytime soon, but I always find myself idly plainning my wedding in my head, probably like a lot of gals do. I mean, I definitely don’t thing anyone has to get married. Society, at least the one I live in, kind of makes it seem like a person has to get  married eventually. But there are so many other paths you can choose in life! You can choose the Single lyfe, have really close bffs, be a single parent, or even be in a committed non-married relationship. Or a non-committed one! Whatever floats your boat 🙂  And the list goes on. There are tons of ways to live your life, and you shouldn’t let society dictate which one you choose.

That being said….WEDDINGS 😀 <3. I recognize married life isn’t something everyone wants or needs, but I still love weddings. The dressing up, the beautiful ceremonies, the bright colors and of course…

DA GRUB.

But before all of this comes the engagement….and the bling! Engagement rings are sooo beautiful!

…But ofcourse I have a shpeel about them 🙂

So a lot of diamonds are from war-torn countries, where the diamond miners work in bad conditions and are paid terribly. By buying rings from contries who get their diamonds this way, you’re kind of funding the process. But never fear! There are companies that make it their mission to provide ethically-sourced and conflict-free rings, such as Brilliant Earth. By no means are they the only company that does so, though. You can usually find out about a company’s sources by searching on their website, doing some digging on google, or simply calling the company!

Yesterday I found a gorgeous ring on Etsy by a company called Rosados Box–

Barra Petite Size 14kt Rose Gold Thin Morganite and Diamond Cushion Halo Engagement Ring (Other metals and stone options available)

Check out the store here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/RosadosBox?ref=l2-shopheader-name

Alright, well that’s it from me. Let’s hear from Swathi about popping that question!

So, is it just me or do we all want that proposal moment to be one of the best moments of our lives? Whether you’re the one proposing or the one being proposed to, you want everything to feel magical. In order to achieve the perfect proposal, I think you only have to abide to these six rules on every girls checklist:

…but other than that, feel free to improvise. I love proposals because  they’re always so unexpected but always have a happy ending! Now, I haven’t seen any marriage proposals, but as a high school student, I’ve witnessed many prom proposals (promposals as I like to call them). These promposals are getting to be as big as real proposals which gives me reassurance that some people won’t have any trouble proposing for real in the future. However, when it comes to marriage proposals, this is by far my favorite proposal ever:

(The actual proposal starts at the 1:25 mark if you want to skip ahead)

Whenever I watch this video, I always end up with a huge smile on my face by the time it’s over and I never get tired of it. If you recently got engaged and wants some tips I would suggest following  the YouTube channel BrideDeForce for some amazing tips on planning your wedding. Also Manni & I are now on Pinterest! We even created a Wedding board filled with what we want for our future weddings, check it out if you want some ideas!

I think that’s it for this wedding post, we’re going to continue these wedding posts later on in the future, but for now enjoy this one! Please give us some feedback on what you want us to talk about next or what you would like to see in these future posts.

Sincerely,

Swathers & Manners

I Just Can’t Stop….Listening to These Songs

Hey guys,
This post is going to kept short, but I just thought I would share something with you guys. Now, I’m one of those people who is obsessed with music. I’m constantly listening to it and I cannot get any work done without music playing in the background. Every so often I’ll discover a song that I’ll become completely obsessed with & will replay it about a gazillion times! I thought it would be fun to share the songs that I’m currently obsessed with every so often( maybe every other Friday?) with you guys. I don’t know what to call these posts, if you have any ideas let me know in the comments below. Now on to my song choices:

Let me know what you guys think & if you’re also obsessed with any of those songs too!

June Favorites!

Hey guys,

How’s it going? Can you guys believe it’s already July? Where has the year gone, we’re halfway to the end of the year. Since June just ended, Manni and I thought it would be fun to share some of our favorite things about the month of June.

Manni’s  Faves:

 1.  Neutrogena Oil Free Moisturizer SPF 15 for the face (Side Note: “Neutrogena is not a cruelty-free brand and I like using cruelty-free brands. So if you know of any cruelty-free sunscreens, let us know in the comments below.”)

 2. Almay Liquid Liner in 221 black/noir: “What I like about it is it’s a drug store brand and it works really well. Also you don’t spend as much money for a good eyeliner as a department store brand.”

3. Justin Bieber’s Someday Body Lotion: “Well first off, I love the smell. But also when I put on it has glitter in it, not too much but just the right amount for me to give me the perfect sparkle. I also got from Tj Maxx where it was only $9.99 for 6.7 fluid ounces which is a great deal.”

Jab We Met

Jab We Met (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

4. Jab We Met- Omg. So this Bollywood movie I saw was AMAZING. I’ve been falling in love with Bollywood movies in general, but this one is definitely one of my favorites. Usually in Bollywood movies, the dance numbers steal the show. However, when Bollywood movies convey emotion, they do it well. And this one did it really, REALLY well. *tears*

Swathi’s Faves:

I actually don’t wear makeup that often, I only where it whenever I have to dress up for a special event or whenever I want to feel pretty. I know it’s weird especially since I watch so many beauty gurus on Youtube, but most of the times, my faves will be un-beauty related. This one is just an exception since this our first favorites post.

1. Maybelline the Rocket Volum’ Express Waterproof Mascara in black: “I always found waterproof mascaras way better than regular mascaras as they don’t run or smudge as much as regular ones. My eyelashes are already really long so this mascara has given it a lot of volume and it has not ever run down my face or smudged when I have it on.”

2. Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream in Medium/Deep Sheer Tint: “Since I don’t where makeup a lot, I personally don’t wear foundation. I like BB creams a lot more because they keep my face moisturized as well as keep it protected from the sun. I really like how smooth and easy this is to apply on and how light it feels on my face.”

3. Neutrogena Deep Clean Oil-free Makeup Remover Cleansing Wipes: “These makeup wipes are amazing, they literally take off all my makeup and don’t irritate my skin.”

4. Paranormalcy Trilogy by  Kiersten White: “So recently I discovered that you could check out ebooks from the library so I went a little crazy and read all of the Parnormalcy books in like 2 days. The series is basically about this girl named Evie who is a special operative who tracks down paranormal creatures and brings them into containment, but when an abnormal paranormal breaks into the containment and changes everything. You can read more about it here.”

We were pretty high up, but this is how well we could see them. (Our friend Kimmie took this wonderful pic, so thank her).

We were pretty high up, but this is how well we could see them. (Our friend Kimmie took this wonderful pic, so thank her).

5. ONE DIRECTION CONCERT: “Okay so this is both of our favorite moment, but OHMYGOD that concert was the absolute best time of my life and I had such a great time! I wouldn’t trade that night for anything in the world and I’m probably going to remember it for the rest of my life! I’ve also been listening to their opening band 5 Seconds of Summer since April and loved all of their songs too!”

6. Get Lucky by Daft Punk: “I’ve been listening to this song non-stop since I first heard it. I think I’ve listened to it more after I discovered this amazing cover of the song on Youtube by George Barnett (above). This guy is crazy talented and the way he covered the song makes this already catchy song even more addictive.”

Okay, so that’s all of our favorites for the month of June. Let us know what your favorites are or what products that you think we should try out in the comments below. Manni & I decided that we’re going to be posting a new blog post every Wednesday. I thought that way you all would have something to look forward to in the middle of the week and something to get you through to the weekend. Well have a fabulous week and we’ll see you next Wednesday for another new blog post.

Love,

Swathers
